Taichung City Shalu District Farmers’ Association held a press conference at the fourth floor auditorium of its Shalu District Farmers' Association Building at 9:00 a.m. on September 12, 2013 (Thursday) to introduce its “Rural Regeneration Policy” and promote local agricultural products and processed prodcuts, including its newly launched "Earth Oil Gift Set", red earth sweet potato, peanut, and black sesame seeds produced at Datu Mountain during the spring season.

The clay soil at the foothills of Datu Mountain is rich in minerals and suitable for growing sweet potato, whose planting area is about 1,100 hectares with a production volume of about 20,000 tons during the period between August and November every year. The red earth sweet potato produced here which feels loose and soft with very good taste is the best food for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Under the counseling by Agriculture Bureau, the Shalu District Farmers' Association also pushes out two processed potato products, namely "iced baked sweet potato" and "Gold Vitality meal package". The "iced baked sweet potato", which is cooked at high temperature and frozen rapidly, tastes like soft ice cream and is a very good gift to give out to friends all year round. Meanwhile, the "Gold Vitality meal package", which is sweet potato-based and blended with 14 kinds of vegetables and grains, is a portable instant-food package that can be consumed by simply pouring in hot water or milk. This product is very good food for modern-time people seeking convenience, high fiber, and health. In addition to sweet potatoes, the foothills of Datu Mountain are also planted with peanuts and black sesame seeds. Peanut plantation covers an area of about 281 hectares, producing approximately 694 tons per year in July, whereas about 58 hectares of black sesame seeds are planted with a production volume of about 29 tons in two harvests a year and with production season in July and November every year.

Under the counseling of Agriculture Bureau, the Shalu District Farmers' Association has also launched the "Earth Oil Gift Set", which consists of limited edition of “peanut oil” and "black sesame seeds oil" extracted by oil masters with 40 years of experience in accordance with the ancient extraction process. All the above-mentioned agricultural products, namely red earth sweet potato, iced baked sweet potato, Gold Vitality meal package, peanut oil and black sesame seeds oil, supplied by the Shalu District Farmers' Association are registered with Intellectual Property Office and marked with “Taichung quality agricultural products”. All of them are very good for self-consumption or serve as gifts for the coming Mid-Autumn Festival. Everyone is welcomed to purchase and practice the low-carbon concept of "eating local and seasonal food" and help increase local farmers' income.
