TCCG used to install Christmas trees and organized activities in the Taichung City Hall Plaza on Taiwan Boulevard and the Yang Ming Building in Fengyuan. After the remediation project, Liuchuan has successfully become a new riverfront landmark to drive the revitalization of Central District. The city government thus decided to change the venue of the Taiwan Christmas Carnival to Liuchuan and the Yang Ming Building. Taiwan’s first water Christmas tree and the creative light view arts exhibition are co-organized by the Information Bureau and Water Resources Bureau.
Director-General Cho Kuan-ting of the Information Bureau and Director-General Chou Ting-chang of the Water Resources Bureau attended the water Christmas tree test conducted this evening. After the five-second countdown of both directors general, the water Christmas tree and light views illuminated together and turned the entire Liuchuan into a brilliant and stunning riverfront. City Councilor Chiang Chao-kuo was also on the scene to feel the Christmas atmosphere built by the water Christmas tree and light views.
According to Information Director-General Cho, he wanted to thank the Water Resources Bureau and councilors such as Councilor Chiang for their assistance in building Taiwan’s unique water Christmas tree and the light view arts by the river. As Taichung City Mayor Lin Chia-lung will officially light up the water Christmas tree on December 9 evening, Director-General Cho invited all to attend the ceremony. Apart from seeing the unique water Christmas tree in Taiwan, citizens will see the most beautiful river in Taiwan. A Christmas market will also be held onsite to combine the craftworks of Taichung artisans and the characteristics of the exotic Christmas culture for citizens to feel the exotic Christmas atmosphere.
Director-General Cho also introduced Taiwan’s unique 9m-tall water Christmas tree. The ingenious design of the tree was inspired by Liuchuan and combined with the Flora Exposition image. With white LED lamps deployed in different layers and laser-carved flowers on the tree surface, including the flaming lily, lily, dancing-doll orchid, and gladiolus, the four largest flower exports of Taichung, citizens can search for them and promote the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition together.
According to Water Resources Director-General Chou, the Liuchuan Light Environment built in collaboration with the Information Bureau is 300m long. In addition to the water Christmas tree, there are also light view arts including the Jumbo Gift Box, Tulip and Rose Sea, Under Bridge Spotlight Walk, and Colorful Love Tree. After the lighting on December 9, these items will be displayed there until March 4 to provide citizens with a great riverfront walking space and promote the development of Central District.
Water Resources Director-General Chou added, the flood season came to its last stage at the end of November. With the critical acclaim for the Creative Light View Exhibition last year, the Water Resources Bureau extends the heat of the light view arts to build the romantic riverfront this year. The bureau also collaborates with the annual Taichung Christmas Carnival of the Information Bureau to let the event series shine until next year.
In the Liuchun venue, apart from the water Christmas tree, two interactive devices are installed on the pedestrian walk of Liuchuan for citizens to experience the avant-garde shadow puppetry show and 3D flowers as a stroll in the flower sea through modern technology. There is also the gingerbread house made specially by hotels and a Christmas market. Besides combining local cultural and creative industries, owners of Chinese pastries and cakes in Central District, the retro toys on Xingzhong Street, and youth startups in Central Districts with characteristics of the exotic Christmas culture for citizens to feel the northern European Christmas atmosphere in Taichung. The creative light view arts including the Colorful Love Tree, Jumbo Gift Box, Flowery Spotlight Walk, and Wishing Pond are added for citizens to experience a Christmas atmosphere different from that of the past.
The Flowery Liuchun: 2017 Taichung Christmas Carnival Activities and the In Love with Liuchun—A Winter’s Romance Creative Light View Arts Exhibition will start on December 9. The Christmas Carnival will end after December 25, while the light view arts exhibition will continue until March 4, 2018. In addition, singing, dancing, and busker performances will last for three days from December 23 to December 25 at the Yang Ming Building in Fengyuan.
