9. Collateral Presentation Officers Take Positions: Symbolically representing eight sages in the ancient times, eight Collateral Presentation Officers are led to the toilet sinks to wash up and clean themselves and then move to stand in front of the Accompanying Consecration Officers, facing the Da Cheng Hall.
Note: Collateral Presentation Officers are usually assumed by director-generals of Taichung City Government or the heads of district offices.
Each of the eight Collateral Presentation Officers is assigned to offer sacrifices of wine and silk to each tablet of the eight sages enshrined at the east and west verandas of Da Cheng Hall.
10. Principal Presentation Officer Takes Position: Principal Presentation Officer is led to the toilet sinks to wash up and clean himself and then move to stand in front of Collateral Presentation Officers, facing the Da Cheng Hall.
Note: Principal Presentation Officer is assumed by Mayor of Taichung City when the Confucian Ceremony is held in Taichung City. It is assumed by the Provincial Chairman when the Ceremony is held in Taiwan Province.
11. Opening the Gates: Ling Xing Gate and Da Cheng Gate are opened.
Note: Ling Xing Gate and the central gate of Da Cheng Gate of the Confucius Temple are usually closed. They are opened to honor Confucius only during the Confucian Ceremony. To show respect to Confucius, people must get in and out of the Confucius Temple through the Guan Te Gate (or Virtue Observation Gate).
