1. The jointly prepared documents (all must carry the original):
Identification documents of both parties are (national ID cards for the nationals. Passport, residence permit, or entry/exit permit for foreigners. And people of mainland China need an Entry/Exit Permit to Taiwan Area issued by the National Immigration Agency with a "marriage registration processing basis after the interview" stamp.)

Household Certificate for Nationals
You will need one qualified or digital photo taken within the last two years. For replacement of photos or digital photos that you can exempt from payment, please refer to Article 14 of the National ID Card and Household Register Production and Issuance Photo Image File Construction Management Regulations (You can find the photo specifications of the national ID card at the Global Information Network of the Department of Household Registration of the Ministry of the Interior-Query National ID Card Photo Specification. Those who submit digital photos, please go to the Global Information Network of the Department of Household Registration of the Ministry of the Interior → Online Application Services → National ID Card → National ID Card Image Upload → Upload a digital photo).

2. Other required documents (all must carry the original) and procedures:
Both parties are nationals and should bring their marriage agreement (which should include the signatures of two witnesses and other relevant data) to either Household Registration Office for marriage registration. For those who have completed marriage in foreign countries, please bring the marriage certificate document verified by the foreign office (must attach a Chinese translation verified or certified by a domestic notary). One or both parties must personally go to any household registration office or transmit the documents to the foreign embassy to handle the marriage registration.

Individuals who are nationals and marry individuals from mainland China must first register with the authority in charge of mainland China. And apply for a marriage certificate, document verification at the Straits Exchange Foundation (here referred to as the SEF), and interview with the National Immigration Agency. After passing the interview, bring the marriage certificate verified by the SEF, and one or both parties go to any household registration office to handle marriage registration in person.

When a national marries a person from a specific country (such as Vietnam, Myanmar, etc.) specified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they must first go to the origin nation of the foreign spouse to complete the marriage registration. Hold the marriage document to apply for an interview and verify the marriage document at our embassy abroad. After passing the interview, one or both parties shall go to any household registration office to handle the marriage registration in person with the marriage certificate verified by the overseas embassy and the Chinese translation, also the statement of the foreign spouse using the Chinese name.

When a national marries a person from a specific country or a foreigner outside the specific country who holds a permanent residence permit issued by the National Immigration Agency of the Ministry, please bring the marriage contract (should contain the signatures of two witnesses and other relevant information), of which the foreign spouse to take it Chinese name statement. After the embassy overseas verifies the marriage status certificates and Chinese translations, both parties should go to any household registration office in person for marriage registration. For those who have married abroad, please bring the marriage certificate verified by the overseas embassy (must attach the Chinese translation certified by a certified or domestic notary) and the foreign spouse's Chinese name statement (such as the foreign spouse fill it out in person at the household registration office, and the embassy abroad does not need to verify it). One or both parties go to any household registration office in person or transmit to the foreign embassy to complete the marriage registration process.
