Taichung's Weather

According to the weather statistics, the city's annual average temperature the Taichung basin that holds almost all of Taichung's population is 23℃ and annual average rainfall is about 1708mm, and the average humidity is 80%. (Source: Taichung Weather Station, Central Weather Bureau; data collected period: 1897-1995). Taichung has mild weather, less humidity, less typhoons, and less rainy days than other regions of Taiwan, yet there is no lack of water supply. Taiwan is split by the Tropic of Cancer, separating the subtropical from the tropical--with Taichung falling just above the line, making it technically 'subtropical'.

In the mountainous 'tail' of Taichung the temperatures are considerably cooler, mostly depending on the altitude. In spite of being subtropical, on rare occasions in winter snow can be spotted on the peak of XueShan Mountain--which appropriately means 'Snow Mountain'.
