Effective Use and Management of City-owned Arable Land

Land Administration Bureau of Taichung City Government has currently managed 1800 parcels of city-owned arable land, amounting to an area of 347 hectares, for leasing. The lessees should plant only crops on the leased land and cannot shift it for any other purposes like construction. Moreover, the lessees should farm the land themselves and cannot transfer or sublet all or part of the arable land to others. Otherwise, the lease contract is invalid, and the lessees shall vacate the land and return it to the Land Administration Bureau without asking for any compensation.

A lessee who wishes to continue to use the city-owned arable land should renew the contract within three months before its expiry. If there is any overdue rental, the lessee should pay it before the contract renewal. Any delay in renewing the lease contract is deemed as a forfeit and the land should be returned to the leasing authorities.

If a lessee of city-owned arable land is dead, his or her heir should apply for inheritance of the lease contract within six months. Late applications for one month shall be subject to a penalty of one month of rental up to 10 months as a maximum limit.

To make it convenient for the public to learn of the leasing status of city-owned arable land, the Land Administration Bureau of Taichung City Government has set on its website an "online inquiry" for unused city-owned arable land and the most updated leasing situations.
