The Land Administration Bureau of Taichung City Government has recently added "Online Municipal Farmland System" to the "Online Query" on its website. Our citizens and other government agencies can now check the leasing status of idle municipal farmlands on the Internet.
Those who have already leased a piece of municipal land and wish to renew the lease agreement must do so within 3 months prior to the expiry of the lease. If there is any unpaid rental, the lessee should pay it before the renewal of the contract. Any overdue contract is considered as an indication to terminate the lease and the land shall be collected back by the leasing authority for other use. To renew the contract before its expiry, a lessee shall bring the original lease agreement and his/her identification card and seal and those of the guarantor to apply to the Land Administration Bureau of Taichung City Government (The blank application form and the lease agreement can be downloaded from the website of land Administration Bureau of Taichung City Government/download/land ownership regulations /public farmland lease agreement /renewal application form)
Land Administration Bureau accepts new (renewed) applications every Monday morning at the Joint Service Center of Yangming Building (1st Floor, No. 36, Yangming Street, Fengyuan District, Taichung City). Please make use of the service.
The municipal farmland shall be used to grow crops only and should never be used for construction or any other purposes. If a lessee does not till the municipal farmland himself or herself or transfer or sublet all or a part of the land to others, the lease agreement shall be considered invalid. When returning the land, the lessee should vacate anything on it and shall not request any compensation.
If a lessee of municipal farmland dies, his or her heir(s) should apply to the leasing authority (Land Rights Division of Land Administration Bureau) for continuation of the lease agreement within six months from the day when the inheritance takes place. Any late application for inheriting the lease agreement shall be punished by a fine of one monthly rental for every month of delay but the total liquidated damages shall be limited to 10 months.
