The Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Taichung City Government has held the National Children's Associative Drawing Contest since 1993 to inspire children's creativity through a game-like drawing competition. In 2004, the contest expanded from a regional event in the Taichung, Changhua, and Nantou areas to a national-level competition. The competition consists of preliminary and final rounds. Unlike general themed drawing contests, it starts with basic, simple shapes printed on drawing paper as the core for associative drawing. Students then freely express their creativity based on these shapes. Each year, we send drawing paper to thousands of elementary schools nationwide, including remote areas and offshore islands, and offer free downloads of the paper. The event has been expanded and promoted, attracting more than 100,000 school children to participate every year. We also provide airfare subsidies for participants from offshore islands. These initiatives aim to promote cultural equity and provide diverse learning channels beyond art education, fostering the creative foundations necessary for national development.
