Each year, the Mazu pilgrimage in the third month of the lunar calendar stands out as Taiwan's most significant traditional religious cultural event, particularly flourishing in Central Taiwan. In 2010, the Ministry of Culture designated the Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage as an important folk custom. This event has become a widely embraced value in folk beliefs and is considered a national intangible cultural heritage. The Taichung Mazu International Festival spans mountainous, coastal, and urban areas, as well as Tun District, incorporating Mazu celebration events in various areas with art and cultural performances. This setup allows local residents to conveniently enjoy the performances. It also integrates folk beliefs with cultural significance and firmly roots them in the local communities, thereby ensuring the ongoing transmission of traditional performing arts and culture.
