
Museum of Fiber Arts (referred to as MOFiA) opened on October 17th, 2018, was the first city level museum in Taichung, and also the only fiber-themed museum in Taiwan. MOFiA hopes to integrate Taiwan’s cultural and natural resources, performs as a craft platform that bridges fiber creators and cultural relics based on the four major cultural relics of the existing collections including Han, Taiwanese aborigines, Southwestern China’s ethnic minorities, and contemporary creation. MOFiA inherits fiber craft culture, with a vision of becoming the textile craft index venue in Taiwan.
The aim of the museum is “fiber‧fashion‧green craft" while upholds the four major functions of the museum: Collection, research, display, and education. MOFiA collects fiber relics with historical, cultural, and artistic value and further reports them as cultural assets. For example, the antiquities such as Atayal traditional costume "Lukus-kaxa' shell beads clothing", and traditional crafts such as the works of Kesi preserver Huang Lan Ye and those of rush weave preserver Zhu Zhouguichun. In addition, there are more than 1,200 important cultural relics in the collection. The mission of the museum is to promote fiber culture to the outside world, and hope to share the fiber crafts relics with profound cultural heritage and beauties with the whole people. Moreover, through innovative experiments, the museum enables people to enjoy the dialogue between crafts and art, and further shape a new look of the traditional skills in contemporary society.
