The Taichung Green Museumbrary marked one month since its official opening today (the 13th). With its distinctive feature of integrating a municipal library and a municipal art museum within a single complex, it attracted over 300,000 visits in its first month and has been warmly welcomed by audiences at home and abroad. Recently, the internationally renowned architecture and design media outlet Dezeen listed the Taichung Green Museumbrary as one of the world’s 10 most anticipated museums and art galleries of 2025, further making it an important bridge connecting Taichung’s urban culture with the world.
Chia-Chun Chen, Director of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government, said that the Taichung Green Museumbrary is dedicated to bringing together art, knowledge, the park, and the cityscape to create an open new living space closely connected to residents’ daily lives. Since its official opening on December 13 last year, it has attracted more than 300,000 visits and received an enthusiastic response from the public. More than 100 schools, arts and cultural groups, and government agencies have also actively booked guided tours, making it an important public venue for learning, exchange, and cultural experiences.
Yi-Hsin Lai, Director of the Taichung Museum of Art, said that the Museum focuses not only on curating artistic content, but also on putting audiences at the center, continuously improving visitor circulation, visitor services, and guided tour planning. In addition to the inaugural exhibition, A Call of All Beings, the education outreach program Corner Missions Play Space Plug-in and the collection education exhibition Illuminating the Storeroom have also been well received by audiences of all ages. At the same time, the Museum enables audiences to participate in person through talks, lectures, and public programs in diverse formats, and continues to expand the visitor experience for different groups. Hui-Chun Tseng, Director of Taichung Public Library, said that the new main library is people centered, with most of its space reserved for public use. By integrating print and digital collections, it provides a comfortable and welcoming reading environment. The Digital Hub brings together diverse digital resources and advanced equipment to create a maker base. The opening exhibition, Unveiling the Encyclopedic World, has received positive feedback. The themed book displays for teens and children invite local children to co-create and share their outcomes from a peer perspective, encouraging family and friends to visit and drawing more people closer to reading.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government added that Dezeen is an internationally renowned architecture and design media outlet and recently released “Top 10 Museums and Galleries of 2025,” selecting cultural venues from different countries and cities that are worth noting for the year and reflecting innovative trends in contemporary museums in architectural design and public engagement. The Taichung Green Museumbrary is the largest cultural facility by building volume among SANAA’s architectural projects to date. With an integrated art museum and library complex as its signature feature, it was selected alongside multiple world-class cultural venues from Europe, the Americas, and Asia, highlighting the Green Museumbrary’s distinctiveness in spatial innovation and cultural positioning and bringing greater international media attention to Taichung’s cultural energy.
In 2026, the Taichung Green Museumbrary will continue to present the diverse dimensions of this cultural venue. The Taichung Art Museum’s inaugural exhibition “A Call of All Beings: See you tomorrow, same time, same place” runs through April 12, while the library’s opening exhibition “Unveiling the Encyclopedic World” runs through May 31. The public is sincerely invited to visit this cultural venue that has received international attention and recognition, and those who have visited before are also welcome to return to the Green Museumbrary to begin their own exploration at different times and in different ways.
