Taichung City Dadun Cultural Center presents a vibrant lineup of cultural events this April. The “2026 Taichung City Female Artists Invitational Exhibition” is now on view, offering a rich showcase that spans from artistic creations by women to an inspiring film lecture. The public is warmly invited to experience this dynamic intersection of art and life.
Since its inception in 2005, the exhibition has become one of the longest-running and largest public showcases of female artists in Taiwan. Now in its 22nd edition, it features a record-breaking 133 artists, ranging in age from 25 to 94. Inspired by the theme “Miracle Rose,” this year’s exhibition echoes the concept of “Dreams,” highlighting how female artists pursue their creative visions while navigating diverse life roles.
The exhibited works reflect deeply personal life stories. Li Li-Fen integrates ink painting into everyday objects, embodying the concept of art in daily life. Yang Yu-Mei returned to painting in midlife, expressing renewal through Gouache Painting creations. Wu Fang-Ying balances family and artistic practice, conveying inner emotions through abstract forms. Li Chun-Lan transforms life experiences through photography, presenting subtle and profound emotional perspectives. Across various stages of life, these artists translate lived experiences into artistic language, with works spanning ink painting, nihonga, photography, calligraphy, and mixed media.
According to the Dadun Cultural Center, the city government has actively promoted video documentation of female artists in recent years. To date, 41 artists have been documented, gradually building a dedicated archive that preserves Taichung’s valuable cultural assets. Visitors are invited to explore the exhibition and witness how female artists transform life experiences into gentle yet powerful creative expressions.
In addition, Dadun Cultural Center will host a “Dadun Master Lecture” on Saturday, April 11 at 2:00 PM, featuring renowned director Chuan Li Chiu, often regarded as a leading figure in 3D imaging in the Chinese-speaking world. His talk, titled “When Light Is Lit, We Can All Become Our Own ‘Superheroes’,” will share his journey of illuminating Taiwan through film and his creative philosophy. Online registration opens at 9:00 AM on March 23 (https://gov.tw/Pkw), and the public is encouraged to participate.
Director Chuan Li Chiu has overcome significant life challenges, including brain tumor surgery that left him partially deaf and visually impaired. Driven by passion, he taught himself 3D filmmaking and gained international recognition. In 2014, he founded the “Amazing Taiwan 3D Mobile Cinema,” bringing films to rural and offshore communities. Over the past decade, the mobile cinema has held more than 4,400 screenings and traveled over 360,000 kilometers. Through his films, including the documentary Taiwan Superheroes, he captures Taiwan’s people and stories, conveying courage and hope while sharing Taiwan’s spirit with the world. The Dadun Cultural Center notes that the lecture will offer insight into the beliefs and actions behind filmmaking, inspiring audiences to face challenges with courage.
