Shuinan Quarterly - An Artistic Adventure at Taichung Central Park

At Taichung Central Park (臺中中央公園), public art is more than just art. It also serves as a medium for dialogue between people and nature. Parents can explore and interact with these works together with their children, allowing art to become a bridge for family connection and shared enjoyment.

Like stepping through a tunnel of time, "Wandering in Greenfield" (綠野遊蹤) brings public art closer to people. Created by artist Kuo- Hsiang Kuo(郭國相), the 10 meter tall caterpillar crawls across the junction of the blue and red pathways in the park, drawing the attention of both children and adults. Near the parking lot north of the park, a giant bird stands quietly among the trees. "Lush Greenery"(綠蔭.菁菁), created by artist Chien-Fu Wu(吳建福), transforms the charming Taiwan barbet into a work of public art, connecting nature and people through artistic expression. This nearly 5 meter tall bird seems to have made the park its own nest, while the egg-shaped seats scattered nearby appear vividly lifelike. The large bird is constructed with a metal framework that allows sunlight and breeze to pass freely through it, while also providing a shaded resting place for both adults and children.

"Island Sphere Signal" (島球訊號), designed and produced by RednerStudio (紅聲數位設計顧問有限公司), combines art and technology. The 12 spheres of different sizes seem to float like bubbles through the forest, weaving among the trees and creating the feeling of stepping into a science fiction world. At night, the spheres slowly shimmer in response to changes in the surrounding humidity and temperature, like breathing bubbles moving in rhythm with the earth. As visitors stroll among them, they can enjoy a vision that feels almost otherworldly and enter into a joyful dialogue with nature. Located in the Dense Forest Zone (密林區), the artwork "Microscopic Reprography" (微觀複印), created by WHYIXD (何理互動設計有限公司), uses mirrored effects to intertwine the image of the work with the surrounding natural scenery, making visitors feel as if they have stepped inside a kaleidoscope. Both children and adults can see reflections of themselves and their surroundings from within the mirrors, experiencing the beauty of the natural environment and its ever changing scenery.

Drawing inspiration from history, culture, ecology, and environmental integration, the artists have incorporated local cultural characteristics into these works, bringing distinctive artistic creations to Taichung Central Park while also drawing people closer together. As art and people move together through the Shuinan Economic and Trade Park, they share moments of leisurely wandering, creating resonance and emotional connection with the environment and awakening a deeper appreciation for the natural ecosystem.
