To promote traditional culture and the arts and showcase achievements in calligraphy and painting, the “Delin Fude Cup National Calligraphy Competition and Defu Painting Fude Sketching Competition Award-Winning Works Exhibition” will be held from July 25 to August 16 in Exhibition Rooms D and E on the second floor of Taichung City Seaport Art Center. Featuring 98 selected award-winning works, the exhibition warmly invites residents to visit, enjoy the beauty of calligraphy and children’s paintings, and experience the humanistic landscape created through the meeting of Taiwan’s folk beliefs and arts education.

Shih Chun-Fu, Deputy Director-General of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government, said the exhibition is organized by Delin Temple in Shalu District, Taichung. Continuing its mission to promote Chinese culture and calligraphy education, the temple uses calligraphy and sketching competitions to encourage people of all ages to create art, while conveying the humanistic spirit of reverence for heaven, gratitude, and prayer through calligraphy and painting. This year’s exhibition features award-winning works from the 11th Delin Fude Cup National Calligraphy Competition and the 14th Defu Painting Fude Sketching Competition, fully presenting the diverse creativity and rich artistic achievements of the participants.

The calligraphy section presents the top three works from six groups: elementary school, junior high school, senior high school and college, general public, senior, and inspirational. All final-round works were completed on site, using a range of scripts including seal, clerical, regular, running, and cursive scripts to show the charm of brush and ink and the cultural depth of Chinese character art. The painting section is divided into five groups under the theme of “Lord and Lady of the Land”, incorporating Taiwan’s religious and folk traditions such as Mazu pilgrimage, Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival, Donggang King Boat Ceremony, Neimen Song Jiang Battle Array, and Harvest Festival. Through innocent perspectives and vibrant colors, children depict belief and memories of daily life, presenting the deep roots of Taiwan’s diverse cultures and the spirit of gratitude and prayer.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government said Delin Temple has long been dedicated to arts and culture education in Taichung’s coastal area. Through calligraphy and sketching activities, it connects faith, art, and local culture, encourages people of all ages to create, nurtures talent in calligraphy and painting, and keeps traditional culture alive as it is passed from generation to generation. In an age of rapid digital technology development, calligraphy and painting not only carry cultural memory, but also hold important value for arts education and cultural inheritance. Through this exhibition, visitors can see the creators’ passion for art, as well as their deep affection for the land, hometown, and faith culture, through the fragrance of ink and the innocence of children’s brushwork. They can also feel how traditional culture continues to grow in diverse and vivid forms.

Residents are welcome to visit Taichung City Seaport Art Center during the exhibition period and experience the beauty of calligraphy and painting, as well as the enduring vitality of Taiwan’s traditional faith culture, in an exhibition where the fragrance of ink meets children’s creative imagination.
