Taiwan's first-ever gigantic mud carpet is in Taichung! The Aura Shining through Tomorrow - SDGs Sustainability Art Special Exhibition Series features four exhibitions, running from September 21, 2024, until the end of 2025. These exhibitions embody sustainability concepts through art, serving as advocates, inspirations, and practitioners of sustainability. Local students from different districts in Taichung, guided by artists, have worked together to create a gigantic mud carpet spanning over 10 meters, adding a stunning touch to the exhibition's grand opening!
The Aura Shining through Tomorrow - SDGs Sustainability Art Special Exhibition Series aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aiming to translate the SDGs concepts into an aesthetic language. Through creative dialogue, the exhibition hopes to inspire discussions around sustainable development. Curated by Professor Chen Yi-fan from the National Changhua University of Education, this special exhibition series highlights art as an active tool for promoting sustainability, with four distinct exhibitions showcasing a variety of forms, media, and viewpoints.
The first exhibition, titled “Collecting,” will be on display until March next year. This collaborative artwork, created by students from eight in-school art programs in Taichung, uses soil collected from Taichung's mountain, coastal, Tun, and city areas to form a gigantic mud carpet with local motifs showcased in the central hall. From April to June next year, the exhibition titled “Antonymous Compound Words and Transitive Verbs” will be held, followed by the exhibition “Soundscape” from July to September, and the concluding exhibition titled “Return” will be running from October to December. This SDGs Sustainability Art Special Exhibition Series will offer a wide variety of media and perspectives, with artworks incorporating natural materials like soil and plants. Everyone is invited to fully immerse in this multi-sensory, contemporary, and brand-new sustainability art experience. Please visit the Taichung City Dadun Cultural Center website (www.dadun.culture.taichung.gov.tw) for more information about the exhibition series.
