Experts in natural dyeing from Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea gathered at the Fiber Art Museum to shine brightly! To celebrate the 6th anniversary of the Fiber Art Museum, Cultural Affairs Bureau of  Taichung City Government  held the "Taiwan-Japan-Korea International Natural Dyeing Exchange Event" from yesterday (the 2nd) to today. Over a hundred artisans from natural dyeing teams across South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan came together to participate in discussions on the development of natural dyeing in Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea, as well as demonstrations of Korean ink dyeing and Taiwanese mud dyeing techniques. The natural dyeing community's "Fiber TALK Show" featured short talks to exchange skills, and there was also a pop-up market showcasing various natural dyeing groups. The rich exchange activities provided the participating artisans with a wealth of knowledge and experience.

The Deputy Director of the Cultural Bureau, Shi Chunfu, stated that the Fiber Arts Museum continues the solid foundation of the early "Weaving Arts Museum" in the field of natural dyeing techniques. Since its opening, the museum has held numerous themed exhibitions and skill workshops, published the book "The Splendor of the Earth - A Compendium of Natural Dyeing in Taiwan," and organized exhibitions such as the "Korean Natural Dyeing Special Exhibition," "Slow Fashion: Asia-Pacific Fiber Arts," and the "Ten Thousand Threads International Exchange Exhibition." These efforts have established a good foundation for exchanges with natural dyeing techniques and fiber artists from Korea and Japan. It is a rare opportunity to invite representatives from the Korean Natural Dyeing Museum, Busan Baeksong Natural Dyeing Education Institute, and the Japanese brand Bocca to Taichung to engage in exchanges and discussions with skilled natural dyers and weavers from across Taiwan.

The Fiber Atr Museum pointed out that yesterday a seminar was held on the current developments in natural dyeing in Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea. The topics included "Research and Development of Natural Dyeing in Museums," "Special Guided Tour of Taiwan's Classic Hundred Colors Exhibition," "Cross-Disciplinary Integration of Natural Dyeing," and "Natural Dyeing Culture and Local Revitalization." Participants included Dr. Heo Beikyu, Executive Director of the Korean Natural Dye Museum; Liu Changwu, Director of the Busan Baeksong Natural Dye Education Institute; Chino Obayashi, President of the Japanese company Booca; Chen Jinglin, a recipient of the National Craft Achievement Award; Hsu Gengsiu, former Director of the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Center; Lin Qiufang, Director of the Tainan Museum of Fine Arts; renowned fashion designer Hsu Yanling; Sun Cuilan, Chairperson of the Yilan Dyeing Workshop Development Association; Wang Shuyi, Chairperson of the Sanxia Triangle Cultural Association in New Taipei City; and Tong Mengjuan, Secretary-General of the Hsinchu County Persimmon Dyeing Cultural Association. Over a hundred natural dyeing practitioners from across Taiwan engaged in lively exchanges at the event.

In addition, today, teams from Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea launched a "pop-up market" in the lobby of the Fiber Museum, featuring indigo dyeing, persimmon dyeing, ink dyeing, and various unique plant-dyed clothing and cultural creative products, attracting many visitors who couldn't help but stop and admire. In the outdoor plaza, Mr. Ryu Chang-hee, the director of the Busan Natural Dyeing Education Institute in South Korea, personally demonstrated the unique technique of ink dyeing; Mr. Liao Lunguang from Taiwan's Mud Dyeing Cultural Heritage Studio also showcased mud dyeing techniques. The special use of dye materials and rich color layers opened the eyes of the attendees.

The afternoon "Fiber TALK Show" brought together natural dyeing experts from all over Taiwan, including the Taiwan Indigo Four Seasons Research Association, the Taiwan Dyeing and Weaving Cultural Creative Association, the Taiwan Natural Dyeing Craft Association, the Taiwan Natural Dyeing Innovation Promotion Association, and the Taichung City Gourd Cultural Center's volunteer indigo dyeing group. They shared their experiences in managing and promoting the natural dyeing cultural industry, leaving the attendees feeling enriched.

The Fiber Art Museum announced that it is coinciding with the "Faces of Formosa - Classic Color Exhibition of Taiwan," which is showcasing the results of the "100 Natural Dye Gene Bank" developed by the winner of the National Craft Achievement Award, Master Chen Jinglin. The exhibition also brings together outstanding textile artisans and fashion designers from across Taiwan to display fiber creations inspired by eight major color schemes. Additionally, the museum's lobby features an installation artwork based on the 24 solar terms, using natural dyes to showcase the colors of Taiwan's natural imagery, cultural history, and lifestyle. The exhibition runs until November 17, and the public is welcome to take this opportunity to explore the hundred "classic colors" that belong to Formosa!
