The Taichung Green Museumbrary, expected to open at the end of 2025, will serve as an innovative cultural hub integrating the functions of an art museum and a public library. In anticipation of its launch, the Taichung Art Museum is hosting “Art Classes on the Green,” a large outdoor event in the Touch Field of the Taichung Central Park, starting December 7, 2024. This event combines outdoor art creation, hands-on experiences, and educational outreach. Featuring collaboration with contemporary artists and local education groups, it invites the public to explore the multiple perspectives of art and environment.
According to the Taichung Art Museum, the event centers around three key highlights in order to redefine how people experience art outdoors. The first highlight, themed “Art Class Market,” will bring together ten art education groups and children’s aesthetic educational brands to offer creative classes for all age. These interactive classes aim to immerse participants in the vibrant world of art.
The second highlight, themed “Outdoor Art Classes,” offers three immersive activities aimed at awakening the senses. These include a body movement class by Dance Lab, a group dedicated to nurturing young dancers, fostering connections between parents and children through dance while exploring the elegance of movement; a juggling play class by Eye Catching Circus, a contemporary circus that blends circus arts to encourage participants of all ages to transform into sculptures in the park; and a spatial exploration class led by artist Chuang Chih-wei, where attendees will observe their surroundings and collaborate on creating unique outdoor art installations.
The third highlight, themed “All-Day Events of Art Experiences,” offers activities that participants can join freely throughout the day. These include Book Picnic, where participants can relax and read on artist-and-community-designed picnic mats; the Black and Blue Art Project, which uses AR and MR technology to blur the lines between the physical and virtual worlds; and Memories of Cyanotypes, an artistic exploration of time through cyanotype printing and glow-in-the-dark art. In the evening, the Starlight Screening allows attendees to reserve picnic mats to watch the documentary Banksy Most Wanted under the stars.
Another feature of the Art Classes on the Green is a focus on art co-creation, encouraging citizens to show their initiative and creativity. Before the event, artists Peng Yu-tzu and Liao Chao-hao led local residents to collect elements from the Green Museumbrary's architecture and nearby nature. Together, they created paintings and artificial fossil artworks, some of which will be integrated into the event's picnic mats and installations, making them a major appeal.
Lai Yi-Hsin, Director of the Taichung Art Museum, shared that the museum remains committed to fostering public programs that blend art with environment. These efforts aim to make art more accessible for daily life, promote cultural equity, and energize Taichung’s cultural scene. She encouraged citizens to take part in the Art Classes on the Green on December 7 at the Touch Field of the Central Park and have a close encounter with the Green Museumbrary before its official opening.
Several activities are nearing full capacity. For more information, please visit Taichung Art Museum’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TaichungArtMuseum/).
