Adorable Tiger Takes the Stage: Family Audiences Roar with Laughter as Paper Windmill Theatre's Wu Song Fights the Tiger Spreads a Message of Philanthropy

On the afternoon of December 7, Paper Windmill Theatre—a drama group adored by children—performed the play Wu Song Fights the Tiger at Wenchang Elementary School in Taichung's Beitun District. The performance drew over 5,000 parents and children, roaring with hearty laughter.

Zeng Neng-Ting, vice director of Cultural Affairs Bureau, noted that Paper Windmill Theatre goes beyond storytelling by integrating diverse theatrical elements to create an authentic yet enchanting atmosphere. Take today’s performance Wu Song Fights the Tiger as an example: it adapts a classic Chinese literary tale into a children’s drama, employing theatrical techniques to convey values like kindness, self-sacrifice, and chivalry—virtues that are increasingly overlooked in contemporary society. The performance carries significant educational value.

According to the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Wu Song Fights the Tiger reimagines a classic tale as a musical drama, incorporating elements of Peking opera-style martial arts, movement, and acrobatics into its choreography. Additionally, the traditional “shulaibao” rhythms are turned into pop music. The lively performance has long been cherished by audiences of all ages. The play promotes concepts like wildlife conservation and universal values of love and peace. It also incorporates playful scenes, including a dynamic horse-racing scene vividly bringing breathtaking landscapes to life on stage, offering both educational and entertaining experiences.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau added that Paper Windmill Theatre will present another performance, The Story of Chicken Town, at Zhuifen Elementary School in Dadu District on Saturday, December 14. Don’t miss it! For more information about the event schedule and program, visit the official website of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (https://www.culture.taichung.gov.tw/).
