Taichung City has announced the winners of the 2024 Golden Museum Award! During the yearly-meeting of Comprehensive Community Development And Cultural Facilities Advocacy Committee of Taichung City, Deputy Mayor Guo-rong, Huang, honored 9 outstanding museums with the Golden Museum Award. The recognition highlights their dedication of presenting their unique features and operational capabilities. Huang also expressed hope that, through collective efforts, these museums together, will contribute to building a livable city and promoting a culturally rich Taichung.

Deputy Mayor Huang highlighted Taichung’s rich array of local museums, emphasizing how their widespread growth has brought cultural resources into daily life, allowing residents to deeply engage with and enjoy cultural atmosphere. He expressed hopes for increased public participation, ensuring that citizens of all ages and districts not only benefit from cultural achievements but also grow alongside these local museums. The annual Golden Museum Award serves as both an honor and a driving force for local museums, inspiring their progress. Through this initiative, the city aims to extend its cultural services to a broader audience, enhance its cultural influence, and increase residents' overall happiness.

Cultural Affairs Bureau Director Chen Jia-jun emphasized the diversity of Taichung’s local museums, with this year’s award-winning facilities each showcasing unique characteristics. Among them, the Taiping Old Farmhouse Cultural Museum, managed by the Taiping District Office, stands out for its nostalgic exhibits, such as woven bamboo hats, red canopy beds, and vintage radios. The museum sparks visitors' curiosity and attracts both young and old through tangible artifacts. With its traditional Siheyuan courtyard layout, extensive volunteer resources, and rich guided tour experiences, the museum offers interactive activities—from selling candy haws to simulating wartime air raid drills—providing visitors with a nostalgic journey through time. Recognizing the needs of an aging society, the Cultural Affairs Bureau has also supported museums in creating the “Five-Senses Therapeutic Treasure Chests.” This program was honored with the Inclusive Aging Award by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as part of the Taiwan Healthy and Age-Friendly Cities program. Looking ahead, Taichung’s local museums will continue to build on their strengths and unique characteristics, deepening their connection with the community.

According to the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Taiping Old Farmhouse Museum can be considered this year's double champion. In addition to winning the Gold Museum Award, it received the Community Building and Revitalization Award for its annual Storytelling Under the Big Tree competition and Double Ninth Festival and Children's Day activities, bringing together the enthusiasm and love of local children and adults. The Golden Museum Award is divided into two main categories—Museums and Local Local museums—assessing overall capabilities and eight special awards highlighting different strengths. This year’s winner of the Museums category went to the Taichung Literature Museum. Winners of other special awards included Wufeng Lin Family Park for the Operational Strategy Award, Taichung Military Kindred Village Museum for the Exhibition Innovation Award, Asia University Museum of Modern Art for the Exhibition Interpretation Award, Fengyuan Museum of Lacquer Art for the Knowledge Translation Award, the historic Taiping Tobacco Market for the Diverse Partnerships Award, Lifu Museum of Chinese Medicine, China Medical University for the Friendly and Common Good Award, and the Museum of Fiber Arts for the Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration Award.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau noted that Taichung’s museums and local museums offer a rich variety of characteristics and highlights, shaping a diverse cultural scene. Citizens are encouraged to explore these venues, engage with local heritage, and take part in shaping a culturally vibrant Taichung.
