To help boost the development of Taichung’s cultural and creative industries, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Taichung City Government has launched a support platform. The first session regarding cultural and creative resources took place at the Museum of Fiber Arts in Taichung, focusing on sustainable practices in cultural and creative industries and advocating the spirit of ESG. The event drew more than a hundred participants from cultural and creative industries area, featured vibrant networking and idea-sharing among industry professionals.

Cultural Affairs Bureau Director Chen Jia-Jun said that culture represents a lifestyle and resonates with the spirit of sustainability. She noted that Taichung has always been a key hub for cultural and creative work, and the Cultural Affairs Bureau remains committed to helping creators elevate their craft and expand the social impact of cultural and creative industries. This session featured a presentation by Director Lee Yu-Fang on ESG-related topics, aiming to foster stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors through this platform.

According to the Cultural Affairs Bureau, many Taichung-based companies are strong supporters of cultural ESG initiatives. One example is Lobsang Corporation, which donated NT$100 million to the Taichung City Government to build Lobsang Books, a library on an educational site in Nantun District. The project aims to create Taichung’s most beautiful ecological library—a sustainable space for reading—contributing to Taichung’s visions as a city of well-being.

Li Yu-Fang, Director of the ESG for Culture Impact Center at the Taiwan Creative Content Agency, shared five strategies for how businesses can incorporate cultural content by engaging cases. She demonstrated how ESG spirit can be truly applied in cultural creativity. These included Fortune Electric funding circus shows at orphanages, HannStar Display forming a long-term partnership with Mango Game, and several companies co-investing in Taiwan’s film and sports industries—showcasing how culture and business can join forces to generate impact.
“I had only a vague idea of what ESG meant, but this event opened my eyes to how deeply sustainability can integrate with cultural and creative industries,” said Chang Hsuan-Hao, manager of Catch the Light. Tseng Wei-Chang, manager of Pocket Rainforest also remarked, “The session gave me a clearer understanding of government subsidy programs and proved highly beneficial.” The event fostered knowledge sharing and cross-sector collaboration, with attendees praising it as an enriching and insightful experience.

Additionally, to stay in step with international trends and empower cultural and creative industries with AI, the Cultural Affairs Bureau is set to launch a lecture series this June titled “Sustainable Cultural and Creative AI Generation.” The series will dive into sustainability themes, share practical branding insights, and explore how AI can enhance design—along with discussions on responsibilities and potential risks. The content promises to be insightful. For more information, check out the “Taichung Original Design” official website,or visit their Facebook page.
