Deputy Secretary-General Chang Ta-chun of the Taichung City Government remarked that he was deeply moved as he represented Mayor Lu and all citizens in witnessing the commencement of the Green Museumbrary’s trial operation today. He noted that this is a long-awaited day for the people of Taichung—the project has taken 11 years from planning to opening—and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated teams and the City Council for their support throughout the process. The Green Museumbrary embodies Taichung’s urban vision of “harmonious coexistence among art, reading, and nature.” As Taichung’s first municipal art museum, the Taichung Art Museum carries the important mission of documenting the art history of central Taiwan, supporting local creators, and promoting international exhibitions. On the other hand, the library, designed with age-specific and thematic zones, integrates local cultural elements to create a cultural hub for reading.Chang warmly invited citizens to bring their family and friends to explore the Green Museumbrary and expressed his hope that this world-class cultural landmark will enable Taichung to shine even more brightly on the global stage.
Mr. Yu, a Taichung resident and the first visitor to enter the Green Museumbrary, shared that he has been following updates about the venue since its construction phase and regularly keeps up with its official Instagram account. Upon learning about today’s trial opening, he made a special effort to arrive early and queue up. He mentioned that he has always enjoyed visiting art museums and appreciating architectural spaces, and was especially excited to learn that Taichung would have a new venue combining both an art museum and a library. Experiencing this fusion of art and reading in person today, he remarked that such a cultural space greatly enhances Taichung’s image as an international city.
During the trial operation period, the Green Museumbrary is presenting the “Environment and Architecture: SANAA Lecture,” which will be available both on-site and via online live streaming.
Meanwhile, the Taichung Art Museum is launching a series of event under the theme “Open, Our Art Museum,” curated by Lin Kun-ying, featuring collaborations with Japanese director Seiichi Hishikawa, Taichung-based writer Kan Yao-ming, choreographers, and other artists. Drawing inspiration from the Green Museumbrary, they explore cross-disciplinary creations such as short stories, architectural façade light installations, and performances, alongside activities like a sketching marathon and immersive video archives. In addition, the collection educational exhibition “Illuminating the Storeroom” will open concurrently, expanding on the concept of a “visible storeroom” that integrates interactive experiences, offering visitors a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes process of art preservation. An international forum will also be held, bringing together 13 experts of leading cultural institutions from 10 countries to discuss the Taichung Art Museum’s curatorial directions and explore new possibilities for cross-disciplinary collaboration and inclusive cultural development.
The Taichung Public Library is launching a program titled “A New Chapter in Reading: Exploring Life with Taichung Green Museumbrary,” featuring a series of activities designed to engage the public in fresh ways with reading and cultural spaces. Highlights include the much-anticipated “Night at the Library” for children, as well as themed lectures, creative workshops, and exclusive evening music sessions that invite participants to experience the charm of this cultural space. The program also brings together a diverse lineup of speakers spanning the fields of literature, media, gastronomy, and self-media. Distinguished guests include Hao Ming-yi, Chairman of Locus Publishing; popular YouTubers Sun Nu and Nana Master; math author Lai Yi-wei; media professional Fang Chun-chu; Chinese literature teacher Shen Yen-yu; and culinary instructor Liu Ming-fang. Through their varied perspectives, the program aims to spark ideas and inspire creativity.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau added that during the trial operation, the Green Museumbrary will provide book borrowing and return services, while only certain areas of the facility will be open to the public. The five major exhibition halls of the art museum, along with the Digital Center and Exhibition Zone of the library, will officially open to visitors on December 13. The Green Museumbrary’s opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with extended hours until 8:00 p.m. on Saturdays. For detailed event and transportation information, please visit the official websites of the Taichung Art Museum (www.tcam.museum) and the Taichung Public Library (www.library.taichung.gov.tw), as well as their social media pages.
