Beginning in December, the Taichung City Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau is launching a series of Christmas events across its arts and cultural venues to enliven the festive season. Each cultural center features vibrant Christmas trees, creating a joyful holiday atmosphere. The Tun District Art Center has prepared the “Wishing Tree of Reindeer & Star,” along with an English storytelling house and a music party; the Seaport Art Center, in collaboration with the Qingshui Military Dependents’ Village Cultural Park, is presenting sustainability-themed, winter-exclusive programs. The Cultural Affairs Bureau invites the public to visit the venues to enjoy music, markets, and parent-child craft workshops—coming together in the glow of lights and music to celebrate the year’s end with warmth.

From now through December 28, the Dadun Cultural Center has installed a two-story, colorful Christmas tree in its main lobby, themed around a picnic party and open for visitors to stop by and take photos. On December 7, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the center will present Dadun Joyful Show – Christmas Carnival Ding-Ding-Dong, featuring a performance by the NTCTCPS Strings, along with a magical bubble show, a toy-exchange station, and a creative parent-child market. Visitors who check in and share their experience on social media that afternoon will receive an exclusive Christmas gift and may also take part in the “Gift Toss Challenge.” Everyone is welcome to try their luck and celebrate Christmas together.

From now through December 31, the Tun District Art Center is presenting the Wishing Tree of Reindeer & Star light installation. A three-meter-tall Christmas tree has been set up in the lobby, accompanied by reindeer, snowmen, and sparkling outdoor illuminations to create a romantic ambiance. During the event period, visitors who check in, like, and upload photos—or tag a friend—may join a raffle for a chance to win an LED night light or a nap pillow. On December 6, the center will host the lecture Ukraine in My Painting. This will be followed by the English Story House session It’s Christmas, David on December 7; the Christmas Music Party with Gemini and Big Bear Brother’s Christmas Juggling Comedy on December 13; and the Picture Book Story House on December 21. Parents and children are warmly invited to register and take part together.

The Taichung Military Kindred Village Museum will present the Beitun Military Dependents’ Christmas Market from December 6 to 7, featuring postcard silkscreen DIY activities and a Christmas photo frame spot that recreates the warm charm of old streets. On December 13, the Taiwan Folk Museum will offer a Handmade Mini Christmas Tree workshop, blending natural elements with festive aesthetics; the workshop fee is NT$499. Beginning December 9, the Huludun Cultural Center will create a romantic Christmas setting and illuminate its plaza with a dazzling “sea of lights.” On December 14, the Christmas Dance Carnival street performances will take the stage, followed by harmonica and chamber music concerts on December 20 and 21, accompanying citizens in celebrating the Christmas season.

The Seaport Art Center and the Qingshui Military Dependents’ Village Cultural Park will jointly present Warm Light Whispers: A Winter Memoir on December 20 and 21. Centered on the theme of “circular renewal,” the event transforms recycled paper into poetic art installations through creativity and handcrafted design. The market will bring together cultural and creative food brands, accompanied by a rich lineup of musical, magic, and storytelling performances. In addition, the Winter Workshop handcraft classes invite participants to create their own Christmas ornaments, marking a warm and meaningful conclusion to the year 2024.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau added that beginning in December, the Taichung Public Library will launch a series of programs across its branches, including book-loan reward gifts, English Story House sessions, lighting crafts, mosaic lamp workshops, Hakka storytelling, and baking experiences, allowing readers of all ages to enjoy the festive season amid the fragrance of books. The Museum of Fiber Arts will extend winter blessings with its Tree of Life Ornament, using recycled fibers to promote the concept of sustainability.
