Taichung’s annual creative fiesta, “Creative Taichung 2025,” officially kicked off on December 4th at the Taichung Public Library Lee Ko-Yung Memorial Branch.
This year, we connect 1 main venue, 6 satellite exhibition sites, 5 educational events, 6 creative markets, and 10 lifestyle stories from citizens. Altogether, the festival lays out 100 reasons to wander Taichung and rediscover the city in brand-new ways.
Teaming up with 20 selected shops in Liming New Village, the event turns the neighborhood into a space you can read, roam, and take part in. From Dec 4 to Dec 21, every Tuesday to Sunday, 10:30 AM–5:30 PM, come stroll through Liming New Village — and see what unexpected encounters unfold between every fold of the city.
A City That Folds, Layers, and Rebuilds
The Cultural Affairs Bureau shared that Taichung’s urban development has expanded not just outward, but upward and in layers — with neighborhoods, homes, public spaces, and lifestyles constantly folding and reshaping through time.
This year’s curatorial team from Ling Tung University chose Liming New Village in Nantun District as the main stage, with the Lee Ko-Yung Memorial Library Branch as the core venue of the exhibition, and also extends to 6 satellite sites:
- Lixin Park
- Liguang Park
- Liming Park
- Taichung City Hall MRT Station
- Kancheng 194 Organic Bookstore
- Star Hostel Taichung Parklane
Together, these locations form a walkable route packed with reading, wandering, and immersive experiences.
Curating Encounters: Living Together, Feeling Together
Curator Hsu Che-Yu noted that this year’s concept returns to the essence of living — focusing on the human bonds built on co-living, co-feeling, and sharing, creating chances for people to meet in everyday scenes.
Co-curator Kuo Chung-Yuan added that “Folding City” reflects Taichung’s multi-layered identity, connecting different venues and disciplines. Residents are invited to step into the role of a Design Hub participant, helping shape the city’s narrative.
The special highlight “100 Reasons to Explore the City,” gathers voices from 100 workers across different industries — from early-morning market vendors and afternoon tea shop owners to late-night construction crews. Their stories reveal Taichung’s unique rhythm across time and space, allow citizens to observe the city through fresh, diverse perspectives.
Design, Light, Encounter — Everyday Life in Liming New Village
Designer Mike He created metallic flower-shaped outdoor seating, inspired by his vision of Taichung’s sunny imagery — the city’s iconic “Big Sunny Day.”
A large-scale interactive installation by I’Der Design’s Tu Yi-Jen and YUMU Manufacturer and Research Studio’s Chen Chien-Tong combines timber structures, plants, and shadow play. The piece encourages visitors to slow down naturally, connect with others, and experience Liming New Village as a place filled with warm, serendipitous encounters.
Illustrator BaNana introduces the event’s new annual IP character, “Foldy”, a playful symbol of the city’s fluidity and endless possibilities.
Some satellite venues even connect via real-time video, letting visitors at different sites interact instantly — a whole new way for people to “meet” across space.
Talks, Walks, Markets, and More
The Cultural Affairs Bureau added that the festival includes special topic lectures, urban walking tours, and cross-disciplinary dialogues. On weekends, visitors can explore vibrant creative markets featuring 65+ independent creators, handmade brands, and local shops offering crafts, florals, prints, and design goods that reflect the rich layers of Taichung culture.
A stamp-collecting challenge is also available during the event — walk the routes, collect stamps, and earn special gifts while deepening your connection with the different exhibition sites.
