Veteran Taichung-based artist Wang Hui-Huang presents his solo exhibition, “Reflections of a Fleeting Life,” at Dadun Gallery I, Taichung City Dadun Cultural Center, on view from now through January 7, 2026. Featuring significant works created over several decades—from early plein-air sketches of rural Taiwan to recent oil paintings—the exhibition traces the artist’s lifelong journey of recording life and reflecting on the land through painting. At the opening ceremony held on December 20, Deputy Director-General Tseng Neng-Ting of the Taichung City Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau praised Wang’s unwavering creative passion, describing him as a vivid embodiment of the spirit of “painting for life, where art and daily living illuminate one another.

Born in 1944, Wang Hui-Huang developed a deep interest in painting at an early age. After graduating from normal school, he devoted himself to education while continuing to pursue art through self-study. Without formal academic training in fine arts, Wang cultivated a distinctive watercolor style through years of observation, museum visits, and persistent practice. His works often depict pastoral houses, rivers, and tree-lined landscapes, rendered in warm tones and delicate brushwork that convey a quiet, understated beauty. His achievements have earned wide recognition, including First Prize in the Public Servants Art Exhibition (Watercolor Category), permanent exemption from jury review, the Chung-Hsing Literary and Art Award, and the Nantou County Art Contribution Award.

Now in his eighties, Wang shows no sign of slowing down. In recent years, he has actively explored oil painting and participated in national large-scale oil painting exhibitions, demonstrating a continual drive to challenge himself. His works capture not only Taiwan’s natural and cultural landscapes but also fleeting moments of light and shadow in everyday life—an eloquent reflection of the belief in lifelong learning and creation.

The exhibition encompasses travel sketches, rural scenes, foreign landscapes, and everyday objects. Among the highlights is the Gathering series, inspired by observations of stacked goods at fruit stands and hardware stores, transforming ordinary arrangements into compositions imbued with subtle humor. The Altered Vision series records refracted views seen through glass brick walls, revealing rhythmic interplay between figuration and abstraction. Through continuous creation, Wang shares, he continues to “discover beauty” in daily life.

Reflections of a Fleeting Life” is not only a retrospective of artistic practice, but also a heartfelt meditation on life and place. Visitors are invited to step into Wang Hui-Huang’s painted world and experience the gentle yet profound light and shadow of an artist’s eight-decade journey.
