During the Lunar New Year holiday (from the first to the sixth day of the lunar calendar), the Taichung City Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau is connecting multiple cultural venues across the city to present a diverse program of markets, exhibitions, and live music performances. Blending historic architecture and military dependents’ village culture, the Bureau has curated festive city walking routes that combine cultural depth with holiday cheer, offering residents and visitors a rich variety of spring outing options. The Bureau invites the public to make the most of the extended holiday and experience the warmth of the season and the city’s cultural charm through relaxed urban strolls, welcoming a brand-new year.
The Taichung Military Dependents' Village Museum will open on Lunar New Year’s Day (February 17). Its special exhibition, “Noodle Tales & Wheat Whispers: A Century of Military Village Noodle Culture,” traces over a hundred years of noodle traditions, showcasing the memories and human connections embedded in military village cuisine. Integrating local wheat promotion, interactive experiences, and educational content, the exhibition recreates the everyday wisdom found at ordinary dining tables. Visitors are warmly invited to explore Beitun New Village and gain deeper insight into this unique culinary heritage. The park will also host the “Beitun New Village Stamp Rally” event, encouraging visitors to cycle through the area to collect stamps and redeem special gifts upon completing the challenge—an eco-friendly, culturally enriching mini-journey.
At the historic Lin Mao-yang Residence (Yide Mansion), the event “Roaring Times Music Hour—Popular Singers Celebrate the New Year” will take place from February 18 (Day 2) to February 21 (Day 5), daily from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Popular singers will perform beloved classic hits, and audiences are invited to request songs on-site, letting music accompany visitors as they sway into the New Year. Meanwhile, the Wufeng Lin Family Mansion and Garden will host a traditional "Tiao Jia Guan" (Dance of Blessing) performance on Day 2, allowing visitors to tour the historic site while receiving blessings for good fortune.
From February 20 (Day 4) to February 22 (Day 6), the Taiwan Folk Arts Museum will present the “Lù-Rén · Strolling — Lunar New Year Special Project: Spring Festival Haven” market. Centered on the theme of “brand entrepreneurs,” the market is curated around the needs of creative start-ups, combining cultural space revitalization with an easy strolling format. The result is a creative marketplace that blends cultural experiences with innovative exchange, adding a leisurely atmosphere to the holiday season.
In addition, the Taiwan Folk Arts Museum’s exhibition, “Echoes of Tableware, Flavors of Taiwan: Everyday Culinary Culture of Early Taiwan,” focuses on traditional Taiwanese food culture. Through the display of bowls, plates, spoons, chopsticks, and other utensils, the exhibition invites visitors to reconsider the seemingly ordinary act of eating as a gateway to understanding the rich foundations of Taiwan’s everyday culture, as well as the emotional bonds and warmth carried through food.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau notes that Taichung’s cultural venues will offer a wide array of programs throughout the Lunar New Year holiday. The Taichung Museum of Fine Arts will open on Day 2, while the Dadun Cultural Center, Huludun Cultural Center, Tun District Art Center, Port of Taichung Art Center, Museum of Fiber Arts, and Taichung Public Library will all open on Day 4. Limited-edition red envelopes and lucky bags will also be available. Citizens are warmly invited to visit the city’s cultural venues during the holiday and enjoy the enchanting blend of art and festive spirit through urban exploration.
