Hosted by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government, the 2026 Summer Arts and Laughter series will take place from July 25 to August 1 at the auditorium of the Taichung City Tun District Art Center. Bringing together crosstalk, manzai, and dance, the program features Xiangsheng Shikong, Mancai Shaoye, Bao-Luo WALK, and W.O Flamenco. From witty humor to the art of movement, the lineup promises a summer arts feast that is both entertaining and artistically rich. Early bird tickets are now available at 20 percent off through June 30, and a limited number of discounted youth seats are also offered. The public is warmly invited to step into the theater and experience the many faces of the performing arts.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau stated that the 2026 Summer Arts and Laughter series is themed A Summer Full of Art in the Tun District and brings together a wide variety of performance forms. The opening production will be You’d Better Not Get Scolded by Xiangsheng Shikong, led by rising crosstalk performer Yi-Hao Huang. Blending classic crosstalk with contemporary life topics and fresh comic routines, the performance delivers layers of laughter through brisk pacing and refined comic delivery. It will be followed by Taiwan and Japan Comedy de~~su, marking the first joint appearance by the two Taiwanese and Japanese manzai groups Mancai Shaoye and Bao-Luo WALK. By combining Japanese manzai with Taiwan’s local language and cultural context, and incorporating short sketches and interactive games, the performance is set to spark a distinctive stage charm that differs from conventional comedy.
The finale of Taichung 2026 Summer Arts and Laughter will be presented by W.O Flamenco, which will bring the dance performance Sound and Steps | Paso a Paso to the stage, adding a richer artistic dimension to the overall program. Inspired by Spanish culture, the production blends music, rhythm, and physical movement. Performed by multiple dancers, it creates a stage work full of tension and emotion. Through the imagery of moving forward step by step, it draws audiences into a cross cultural artistic atmosphere and highlights the expressive power of dance.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau further noted that, in order to encourage young people to engage with the arts, each performance in 2026 Summer Arts and Laughter offers a limited Youth Seat discount. Young audiences aged 13 to 22 may use Culture Points to enjoy a 50 percent discount. The Bureau also reminds ticket holders that Youth Seat tickets are valid only for the ticket holder, who must present valid identification when entering the venue. A small promotional gift will also be available for redemption. Through this program, the Bureau hopes to help students connect with the performing arts in a lighthearted and engaging atmosphere, while also inviting audiences from across Taiwan to visit the Tun District Art Center this summer and enjoy performances that are both dazzling and laugh out loud funny.
