The “2024 Creative Taichung – Design Hub in Taichung” project, which used design as a language for urban communication and integrated local cultural, industrial, and creative resources, was honored with a Red Dot Design Award in the Brands & Communication Design category and also received the Golden Pin Design Mark. According to the Cultural Affairs Bureau, these recognitions underscore Taichung’s achievements in city branding and design communication while highlighting the city’s growing influence within the global design community.
The Taichung City Government has positioned “Creative Taichung” as the flagship brand of the city’s cultural and creative development. Through curatorial initiatives, neighborhood connectivity, cross-sector collaboration, and industry support programs, the city integrates design thinking into urban life and industrial development, creating a platform that combines cultural value, creative expression, and market potential. The 2026 exhibition, themed “Power City,” will further showcase Taichung’s diverse strengths and global vision as a leading creative city in Asia.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau noted that Taichung possesses a unique combination of industrial foundations, cultural heritage, and vibrant lifestyles. From traditional crafts and manufacturing industries to emerging design brands, the city continues to generate rich creative and innovative energy. Over the years, Creative Taichung has brought creativity into neighborhoods, industries, and everyday life. It has also become an important platform for citizens to experience the city’s creative vitality while enhancing Taichung’s international visibility. As a result, the initiative has become a key driver of urban branding and the development of the cultural and creative economy.
Looking ahead, the Bureau stated that Creative Taichung 2026 will build upon the “Design Hub” concept under the curatorial theme “Power City.” The historic Taichung Prefectural Hall will serve as the central exhibition hub. Through the reopening and revitalization of this historic landmark, the project seeks to bring renewed attention to urban memory, cultural governance, and public culture. The exhibition will extend to surrounding cultural venues, transportation nodes, and neighborhood businesses with historical significance or industrial relevance. Through landmark installations, satellite exhibitions, district-wide collaborations, guided tours, and public engagement programs, the initiative will connect the city’s historical layers, industrial memories, and everyday life experiences.
To further strengthen the development of the cultural and creative industries, the Cultural Affairs Bureau has implemented the TCOD (Taichung Original Design) brand and related support programs to assist local businesses in adopting design thinking and enhancing product development, brand identity, packaging design, and marketing capabilities. According to data from the Ministry of Finance’s Fiscal Information Agency, Taichung ranked second and third among Taiwan’s six special municipalities in the annual growth rates of cultural and creative industry establishments and business revenue, respectively, between 2023 and 2024. The Bureau will continue to provide professional consulting services and connect businesses with relevant resources to help promising Taichung brands gain greater visibility, expand beyond local markets, and access broader consumer and exhibition platforms, thereby enhancing brand competitiveness and cultural added value.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau further emphasized that Taichung will continue to promote urban cultural branding and the cultural and creative economy by building on culture as its foundation, design as its methodology, and industry as its support. Creative Taichung will continue to serve as a platform for urban creativity, fostering greater cross-disciplinary collaboration and international exchange. Through these efforts, Taichung will continue to expand its international presence and showcase its unique character, creative strengths, and future potential.
