Hailed by international media as “the world’s largest outdoor dance event,” the Cloud Gate outdoor performance returns once again to Taichung! On the evening of Saturday, August 9, at the Taichung City Government Hall's Front Plaza, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre will present Lunar Halo, a globally acclaimed work by Artistic Director Cheng Tsung-lung. Resembling a grand and majestic epic, the performance unleashes an unrestrained force and primal vitality through pure body movement. This event offers people of all ages the opportunity to engage with dance and experience a world-class performance. Everyone is welcomed to join this summer celebration and create unique cultural memories together.

According to the Cultural Affairs Bureau, this year’s Cloud Gate outdoor performance will feature Lunar Halo, a work created in 2019 by Cloud Gate’s Artistic Director Cheng Tsung-lung in collaboration with the Icelandic rock band Sigur Rós. Commissioned by the National Performing Arts Center, the performance draws inspiration from the atmospheric phenomenon known as a “lunar halo,” or “mao yue liang” in Chinese. Integrating themes of humanity and technology, the performance is enhanced by dynamic LED lighting that intensifies its wild and untamed energy. The team has toured North America and several European countries, receiving positive acclaim. The event will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, at the Taichung City Government Hall's Front Plaza. It will begin with a warm-up session led by Cloud Gate Dance School, inviting participants of all ages to move freely with the music, followed by the main performance. Citizens are warmly encouraged to attend with family and friends.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau added that a variety of exciting events have been planned for the summer. On August 2 and 3, the Seaport Art Center will present “Art Parade in the Harbor City: Elegance of Qingshui,” featuring performances of traditional folk arts, glove puppetry, and narrative singing by the Miao Hsuan Dance Troupe and other groups. On August 16 and 17, the Open Pandora Theatre Festival will take place at the Maple Garden Ecological Park, with Open Theater Group, along with others family-friendly musicals and comedic performances. Citizens are warmly invited to take part in these events. For more information, please visit the official website of the Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau (https://www.culture.taichung.gov.tw).
