The 2026 Taichung City Artist Relay Exhibition, "Stone Warmth and Resonance: Chien-Yi Wang Stone Sculpture Exhibition", opened warmly at the Huludun Cultural Center on May 1. The artist uses cold, solid stone as his brush to carve tender stories about nature, family affection, and life, allowing viewers to appreciate quietly flowing poems of life between stone and light.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government stated that Chien-Yi Wang has devoted more than 20 years to stone sculpture. Starting from the most fundamental carving techniques, he came to understand the mindset that “art is like spiritual practice” through repeated chiseling and polishing. Raised in the countryside, his memories of living in harmony with the land became the deepest nourishment for his creative work. This exhibition takes stream stone sandstone as its primary medium and features works centered on lotus themes, as well as animals, plants, daily life, and family. Through a simple and gentle stone vocabulary, the exhibition expresses profound reflections on nature and life, along with concern for family affection and society.

The lotus is the most important spiritual image in Chien-Yi Wang’s work. He said, “To preserve purity in ordinary life is a kind of strength”. It reflects his hopes for a steady and grounded life, as well as a character marked by clarity and self discipline. Among the works on display, the "Lotus Leaf and Frog Delight" series depicts frogs moving nimbly among lotus leaves, conveying the resilience of life that continues to grow upward even within changing surroundings. "Lotus Sentiment" captures the stillness and freshness of a lotus pond after the rain, as if distilling the sound of the wind and the moisture in the air into a single moment of calm.

"A Bustling Summer" takes a lotus pond in midsummer as its setting, where croaking frogs and the shadows of ducks interweave to create the vibrant rhythm of nature. Meanwhile, "Gourd Lion" combines the auspicious symbolism of the gourd, associated with blessings and prosperity, with the protective image of the stone lion. With its solid and rounded form, it carries blessings for family harmony and social stability. These works are not merely sculptures. They are more like reflections on family, the land, and those seemingly ordinary yet deeply meaningful moments in daily life. All citizens are welcome to visit the exhibition and experience a moment of inner peace and quiet in a space where the fragrance of lotus and the shadows of stone come together.
