27 Outstanding Products Selected by TCOD Taichung Original Showcase the City's Creative Excellence

The results of the 6th TCOD Taichung Original brand selection have been officially announced. This year's program attracted 105 entries from 76 businesses, with 27 outstanding products ultimately receiving TCOD certification. The selected works include 8 craft products, 7 visual and packaging design projects, and 12 creative lifestyle products, reflecting the vitality and diversity of Taichung's creative industries through craftsmanship, visual communication, packaging design, and innovative lifestyle products.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau stated that, to further encourage excellence in the cultural and creative industries, this year's TCOD program introduced a new "THE BEST" Award. Selected by the judging panel based on criteria including cultural significance, market potential, creativity, and design aesthetics, the award recognizes the year's most outstanding product.

This year's THE BEST Award was presented to "Hanabi Trivet," designed by umami. Centered on the concept of sustainable design, the product transforms surplus wood from furniture production into practical yet aesthetically refined household objects. Embodying the design philosophy of creating "an object for the home, a centerpiece for the table, and a continuation of sustainability in everyday life," the work successfully integrates design innovation, functionality, and environmental responsibility, exemplifying the quality and depth of Taichung's original design.

Judge Liao Chia-Ling Lowy, founder of Scandinavian Designer, noted that this year's TCOD selections not only highlight local cultural identity and design aesthetics, but also demonstrate thoughtful approaches to the circular economy, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility. These qualities reflect both Taichung's diverse urban character and its strong industrial foundation, while showcasing the city's growing strength in cross-disciplinary collaboration within the cultural and creative sector.

Judge Chan Wing-Kei also commended the strong emphasis on sustainable design demonstrated by this year's entries. He cited TTC GOODS' "Blooming Fragments – Regenerated Crochet handbag Collection" as an outstanding example of circular design. By deconstructing, weaving, and reassembling surplus textiles, fabric offcuts, and excess inventory from garment production, the collection transforms discarded materials into new creations. Preserving the original textures and traces of use gives each piece its own distinctive character while successfully combining environmental responsibility with contemporary design aesthetics, offering valuable inspiration for the industry.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau further stated that, in line with Mayor Lu's vision of bringing Taichung brands onto the international stage, TCOD Taichung Original has continued to strengthen the city's creative brand identity. In August, the Bureau will once again lead the selected brands to participate in the 2026 Creative Expo Taiwan, where a dedicated "TCOD Taichung Original" pavilion will be presented at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center from August 6 to August 12. The exhibition will serve not only as an important platform for showcasing Taichung's design excellence, but also as a valuable opportunity for local brands to expand their market presence and engage with broader audiences.

Visitors are warmly invited to explore the exhibition and experience the creativity and craftsmanship of Taichung's original brands. For the complete list of selected products, please visit the official TCOD Taichung Original website.
