The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government is holding the 2026 “Qingfeng Building Artist-in-Residence Open Studio Day”, featuring a variety of activities including a mini exhibition, creative demonstrations, talks, and hands-on workshops. Visitors are invited to experience the many facets of art up close. The mini exhibition “Tool Stories” will be on view in each residency space through September 12 (Saturday), and visitors may enter freely during studio opening hours. An online gallery is also available on the Taichung City Seaport Art Center website, allowing people to visit virtually even if they cannot be there in person. The Open Studio Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 12, 2026 (Saturday), inviting the public to experience the many ways art and life come together.

Taichung City Seaport Art Center said the mini exhibition begins with “Tool Stories”, focusing on the creative tools artists use in their daily work. Marked by wear and traces of use over time, these tools are not only extensions of the artists’ bodies, but also carriers of their creative journeys and personal experiences. From different perspectives, the exhibition reveals little-known stories behind artistic creation, guiding viewers to understand the stories and creative contexts behind the works through the tools themselves. Open Studio Day also invites the public into the residency studios through a range of activities, giving visitors the chance to interact with artists up close, learn about different creative media and craft techniques, and feel the charm of art as part of everyday life, bringing people closer to artistic creation.

This Open Studio Day features a rich lineup of hands-on workshops, creative demonstrations, and talks, including “Let’s Play: Fun with Seeds”, where participants will use six types of auspicious seeds, including soapberry seeds, which symbolize freedom from worries, and Heritiera littoralis seeds, which resemble silver ingots, to make the “Seed Spirit Mani Pile - Blessing Pen Holder”. Tsai Yu Sculpture Art Studio, joining the residency program for the first time this year, will offer the “Aroma Stone Plaster Mold Experience”, using traditional pastry molds to create aroma stones. Other activities include the “Taiwan in Floral Threads” woven keychain workshop by Weaving Fun Creative Studio and “The Beauty of Tea Settings” by Fang Yuan Cultural Tea House. With low-cost and beginner-friendly activities, the event allows the public to enjoy the fun of creating with different materials. In addition, Chen Yung-Hsing, Chen Yu-Ju, and Wu Pin-Hui will each give a free talk, sharing creative knowledge and the results of their residency research. Tsui Ke-Ying and Wang Tzu-Hsuan will combine talks with hands-on experiences, guiding the public in learning about different artistic media and craft techniques. Through the sharing of professional knowledge and creative ideas, participants can deepen their appreciation of art and cultural experience.

To promote arts and cultural activities, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government publicly selects artists each year for residency at Qingfeng Building. The resident artists have long been devoted to different fields of artistic creation, covering fiber art, sculpture, tea culture, lifestyle aesthetics, and more. Through Open Studio Day, they not only present the results of their residencies, but also create a platform for artists and the public to connect. Everyone is welcome to take part and experience the rich energy of artistic creation. Advance registration is required for all hands-on workshops, creative demonstrations, and talks during Open Studio Day, and some activities charge a material fee. Registration pages, studio opening hours, and other details are available on the Taichung City Seaport Art Center official website (https://tcsac.taichung.gov.tw/) and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/tcsac.taichung/).
