Pi-Chiang Lin Glue Color Painting Invitational Exhibition at Tun District Art Center Presents Representative Works in “True Landscapes, Tranquil Realms”

“True Landscapes, Tranquil Realms - Pi-Chiang Lin Glue Color Painting Invitational Exhibition” is on view from now through November 8 in Exhibition Room A at Taichung City Tun District Art Center. Invited by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government, artist Pi-Chiang Lin presents nearly 30 years of creative exploration into the spirit of landscape and the expression of materials. Through personal life experience, Eastern landscape thought, and contemporary awareness, Lin has gradually built a creative language with his own clear context. The exhibition features 34 representative works created over the years with glue color and mineral pigments. Visitors are warmly invited to explore the rich layers of glue color art and the delicate textures of mineral pigments, and to feel the calm and far-reaching spirit that natural landscapes can bring to the mind.
Deputy Director-General Ying-Chun Yu of the Cultural Affairs Bureau said Pi-Chiang Lin was born in Yunlin in 1973 and served two terms as chairperson of the Taiwan Glue Color Painting Association. His works have been collected by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung Art Museum, Taichung County Council, and Taichung County Cultural Center. He has also served as a juror for major art exhibitions, including the Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition of Taichung City, Tai-Yang Art Exhibition, Central Taiwan Art Exhibition, Wan-Ho Art Exhibition, and Green Water Award. Through academic research, Lin reexamined nearly 30 years of experience in glue color painting and earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Calligraphy and Painting Arts at National Taiwan University of Arts this June, further deepening his understanding of Eastern media, mineral pigments, and glue color art. His techniques combine painting, heating, washing, and other expressive methods, together with the delicate yet substantial texture of mineral pigments, creating glue color works with rich layers and a strong contemporary aesthetic.
Lin said this is his first solo exhibition in Taichung in six years, following his 2019 solo exhibition at Taichung City Dadun Cultural Center. The exhibition is themed “True Landscapes, Tranquil Realms”. “True landscapes” are not direct reproductions of natural scenery, but inner landscape images transformed through long-term observation, reflection, and creative refinement. “Tranquil realms” symbolize the quiet spaces created by the works, guiding viewers into painted worlds where color, texture, and space intertwine, and allowing them to feel the deep spirit held within landscapes. The exhibition is structured around two major series, “Ink Rhythm” and “Color Adornment”. The former transforms the ink-like spirit of traditional landscape painting through layers of mineral pigments and deep tones. The latter uses color as its main expressive language, exploring the possibilities of color in space and emotional expression. Together, the two series show the artist’s reflections on contemporary landscape glue color painting.
In Pi-Chiang Lin Glue Color Painting Invitational Exhibition, the work “Pure Realm” centers on a cascading waterfall. The dark mountains set off the pure white flow of water, like a beam of light cleansing the spirit. The artist layers mineral pigments to create the dense, moist texture of rock walls, while using soft brushwork to depict the rhythm of flowing water. The whole image carries the quiet atmosphere of a deep valley landscape and reveals a spiritual realm that settles the mind. Another work, “Deep Forest”, uses towering trees to build a quiet, secluded forest scene. Through layers of mineral pigments and shifting light and shadow, it creates a misty and profound sense of space, leading viewers as if into the depths of a forest, where they can feel the calm and inner resonance brought by nature.
Lin also introduced “Mountain Form”, a work centered on mountains under the moon, transforming landscape into an image between figuration and abstraction. In the painting, a crescent moon shines on layers of stacked mountains. The artist uses the piling, brushing, washing, and wiping of mineral pigments to create rich textures and spatial depth, allowing the mountain forms to reveal a unique visual rhythm between fragmentation and reconstruction. Under the moonlight, the mountains reveal a quiet and distant mood, showing the artist’s creative thinking as he transforms natural scenery into inner imagery.
Taichung City Tun District Art Center said Lin has long devoted himself to glue color art and has achieved remarkable results. Through the granular quality and rich layers of mineral pigments, he gives landscape a fresh contemporary expression. The Center warmly invites the public to visit Taichung City Tun District Art Center and take in the quiet power of natural landscapes within painted worlds woven from light, color, and texture, while experiencing the rich and profound aesthetic depth of glue color art.
