This year, the Ministry of Culture has expanded the eligibility for the Culture Points program to include youths aged 13 to 22. In response, the Taichung City Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau has partnered with local arts and cultural venues to launch a range of special offers, encouraging young people to explore cultural spaces during the summer. According to the Cultural Affairs Bureau, carefully selected performances at performance venues in Taichung will feature designated “Youth Seats” available at a discounted rate—tickets purchased with Culture Points are eligible for at least 50% off, with some tickets priced as low as NT$100. Youths from across Taiwan are warmly invited to visit Taichung this summer and embark on an exciting journey through the arts with Culture Points!
The Cultural Affairs Bureau noted that the city government has long been promoting arts and cultural equity. By combining Culture Points with “Youth Seats,” more young people are given the opportunity to engage with the arts and develop their appreciation for them. Currently, there are over 4,566 arts and cultural venues in Taichung that offer Culture Points-based options, including performance halls, independent bookstores, cinemas, museums, markets, and cultural heritage sites. Popular locations such as the Shen Ji New Village, Guang Fu New Village, and Taichung Station Railway Cultural Park all accept Culture Points. The bureau sincerely invites young people visit Taichung with their friends and experience the charm of both the arts and the city.
Regarding the shows eligible for “Youth Seats,” the Cultural Affairs Bureau further explained that this summer’s offerings include comedy, musicals, children’s theater, and experimental performances, allowing young people to enjoy theater at affordable prices. For example, the Tun District Art Center is presenting the “2025 Playful Arts Summer – Dopamine Club” series, featuring productions such as The Comedy Duel: Black and White Kitchen Waste by HaoxHsiao Troupe, Laughter is The Best Medicine by Multi-X Theatre Company, and The Master Is Here by Comedy Troupe.
In addition, the Huludun Cultural Center is hosting the 2025 Huludun Arts Festival, featuring a diverse lineup including The Perfect AI Project by Tanghulu Theater Group, Opera Workshop by the Dajia Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, Solo / Duet with the World by TimeArt Studio, and Hello Manzai: Happy Every Day Farm by Open Theater Group. These performances cover themes such as artificial intelligence, vocal music, ecology, and comedy. Meanwhile, at Chungshan Hall, Eternal Mirage by Funto Art, Beauty is in the Comedic Twist of the Beholder, a co-production by People Theatre and Ming Hwa Yuan, as well as the beloved “Symphonic Concert: Music from the Films of Hayao Miyazaki.” All of these shows offer “Youth Seats,” with ticket prices starting as low as NT$100, making it easier for students to enjoy theatrical experiences.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau noted that 61 independent bookstores with diverse styles across the city have joined the Culture Points program, spanning the mountain, coastal, and urban districts. These include Central Bookstore, The Regent Bookstore, Artqpie Library, Zenith Asbk Books, Paper Books, Asahikari Books, Bien Books, Aftertaste, Wild Book Store, Guava Books, Fish in the Alley, A Room of One’s Own, and Humanistic Space, among others. In addition, more than ten physical locations of bookstore chains—such as Eslite, Kingstone, and Kinokuniya—also accept Culture Points, offering young people a wide range of opportunities to explore arts and culture.
