How should families plan the Children’s Day long holiday? The Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Taichung City Government invites children and parents alike to “have fun and recharge through the arts”! The Taichung Children’s Arts Festival is the second event in the “Taichung Children’s Month” series. It will feature four themed areas at Wen-Xin Forest Park, namely “Dream Island”, “Story Island”, “Game Island”, and “Gulu Island”, bringing drama, music, parent-child interactive experiences, and wonderful performances.

Director Chia-Chun Chen of the Cultural Affairs Bureau stated that the city government has long upheld the concept of “bringing arts and culture to the grassroots”, in the hope of bringing art into children’s lives from an early age. “Taichung Children’s Month” is jointly organized by the Social Affairs Bureau, the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the Information Bureau, and features three major themed events, namely the Family Fun Party, the Children’s Arts Festival, and the Parent-Child Music Festival. Through diverse performances, experiential activities, and interactive games, children can learn and grow through laughter, while parents can also experience the fruitful results of the city government’s efforts in promoting child-friendly policies.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau further explained that this year’s Children’s Arts Festival is centered around four themed areas, namely “Dream Island”, “Story Island”, “Game Island”, and “Gulu Island”. “Dream Island” and “Story Island” bring together diverse performing arts groups to present drama, music, and wonderful performances; “Game Island” features a variety of parent-child interactive experiences, allowing children to explore creativity through play; and “Gulu Island” brings together cultural and creative brands and food stalls, allowing visitors to stroll, play, and experience the charm of an arts and cultural market.

Over the three days from April 3 to 5, a total of 16 performing groups and street performers will take turns appearing, alongside a wide variety of interactive games and market activities, allowing children and adults alike to join in and go home with happy memories. In addition, this year marks the first time that works from the “National Children’s Associative Drawing Contest” will be displayed, making children’s artwork one of the most colorful highlights of the festival and reflecting their rich imagination and creativity.

On the evening of April 3, the popular Paper Windmill Theatre will stage the children’s production “Three Kingdoms Adventure(《三國奇遇》)” at Fulfillment Amphitheatre. Reimagining the classic “Romance of the Three Kingdoms(《三國演義》)” in an innovative way, the production uses a lively stage performance to lead audiences through the past and present, making literature and history more accessible and enjoyable.

We welcome citizens to bring their own picnic mats and enjoy the Children’s Day holiday by taking their children outdoors and into the arts, creating wonderful childhood memories filled with laughter and creativity. A number of performances will also be staged at arts and cultural venues over the weekends in April, inviting families to step into the theater and experience the charm of the performing arts, making every week of Children’s Month exciting and every event memorable.
