The annual flagship event of the Taichung City Tun District Art Center, the 2026 Parent Child Arts Festival, will take place from May 2 to June 21. This year’s event is themed "Imagination Unlocked" and will connect the outdoor amphitheater, the auditorium, and the experimental theater to present a diverse lineup of family programs, including a baseball story adapted from real life, environmental theater, and musicals. Following Rescue Hero Poli on cooperative challenges and adventure missions will help children learn everyday safety concepts, while Inspector Pig will lead children and adults alike in deduction and mystery solving through 3D animated scenes, creating an immersive interactive experience. Prize draws at the outdoor performances will also feature items such as 3D printing pens and mechanical coding robots, bringing families a warm and delightful arts experience.
Shu-Min Yuan, Director of the Taichung City Tun District Art Center, stated that the Parent Child Arts Festival attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year. This year, the Center has once again invited the outstanding Taichung performing arts group Taiwan Youth Band to present the fairy tale salon "Dinosaur Academy Goes to School", guiding children to experience the charm of brass instruments in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere through storytelling and interactive games. The Taiwan Yangqin Orchestra will collaborate with Ifkids Theatre Studio to present "The Legend of the White Snake" during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, combining Eastern music with a classic story to create a multi layered viewing experience through cross disciplinary innovation. Chung, Chuan-Po, leader of the Taiwan Yangqin Orchestra, stated that he hopes this cross field collaboration will allow more people to appreciate the diverse appeal of yangqin music.
The ticketed programs of the 2026 Parent Child Arts Festival, "Imagination Unlocked", are not to be missed. Featuring the theme of Tech x Art, Ifkids Theatre Studio will present Inspector Pig’s interactive video theater, "The Explosion Case of the Sparkling Treasure Shop". In addition to joining the investigation through video, audience members will also have the chance to wear VR headsets, enter the virtual scene to collect evidence, discuss the case with the rest of the audience, and vote to uncover the truth. The stage play "A Summer Surprise Park", featuring the much loved Rescue Hero Poli, combines large scale character costumes with a briskly paced storyline, inviting children to meet and interact with Poli, the justice loving police car, and his friends, while learning everyday safety knowledge in a joyful atmosphere.
In addition, the free performances at the outdoor amphitheater are equally diverse and exciting. These include the environmental children’s plays "Little Bear Loves the Earth" and "Bugs, Charge Forward" by KISS ME Theater Group, which incorporate the concept of the Sustainable Development Goals and use vivid and engaging stories to guide audiences to pay attention to environmental sustainability and wildlife conservation. Large scale productions will also include Ifkids Theatre’s "The Ugly Duckling Meets Cinderella", which blends several classic fairy tales with interactive game elements, and "Our Baseball Boys", which depicts the growth journey of a little league team and presents the charm and emotional power of baseball through an inspiring storyline. This rich program lineup allows both children and adults to fully enjoy the performances, while balloon magic parties and on site family activities will also be arranged between shows.
The Taichung City Tun District Art Center stated that, from April 22 to June 21, during the Center’s opening period, an "AR Technology Interactive Mini Exhibition" will be presented in the first floor lobby, allowing visitors to easily experience the diverse forms of art through digital technology. Everyone is welcome to enjoy this family celebration that brings together art, technology, and imagination.
