Opening in Summer! Taichung Chung Shan Hall Becomes a Summer Arts Amusement Park as Taichung Playful Stage Theater Life Festival Opens July 11 with First Free Immersive Mystery Game Experience

The “2026 Taichung Playful Stage Theatre Life Festival: Art Feast Amusement Park” will take place at Taichung City Chung Shan Hall from July 11 to 26. At a promotional press conference, Chia-chun Chen, Director-General of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government, announced that Chung Shan Hall will be transformed this year into a large-scale performing arts “amusement park”. In addition to exciting performances and a lively creative market, Chung Shan Hall will open its entire venue to the public for the first time. Visitors of all ages are invited to enjoy free admission, become detectives, and take on an immersive escape-style mystery game to unravel the “Chung Shan Hall Mischief Mystery.” The Bureau also expressed its gratitude to the ASE Cultural and Educational Foundation and Siliconware Precision Industries Co., Ltd. for their continued support of arts and culture, joining the city government in bringing Taichung’s signature summer theater festival to life.
Director-General Chen said the Taichung Playful Stage Theatre Life Festival is now in its third year, with further expanded in scale. In addition to performances, the festival will feature interactive participation and immersive experiences, allowing residents to get closer to the theater in a more relaxed and engaging way. During the event, Chung Shan Hall will open its entire venue to the public for the first time. Visitors can take part in the immersive mystery game without purchasing tickets, explore theater spaces that are rarely open to the public, and experience the unique charm of the theater both onstage and behind the scenes.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau noted that, in addition to the immersive mystery game, the resident company Extreme Dance Theatre will present Fantasy Beyond Boundaries at 2:30 p.m. on July 12, featuring professional dancers performing alongside senior participants in an inspiring cross-generational celebration of artistic inclusion. On the evenings of July 25 and 26 at 6:30 p.m., Focus Creatives, a Taiwan Top performing arts troupe from Taichung, and Circus Gate, an outstanding performing arts company from New Taipei City, will present spectacular open-air circus performances under the stars in the outdoor plaza. Free admission tickets are now available at all Taichung City cultural centers and Chung Shan Hall.
In addition, Taichung’s outstanding performing arts group 20% EXP. Theatre will present the participatory theater production “Is the Stage Play Ready?!” at 7 p.m. from July 15 to 16, breaking down the traditional boundary between performers and audiences. The performance invites audience members to step from their seats into the story and jointly complete a one-of-a-kind theatrical adventure through interactive participation.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau pointed out that during the event period(July 14 to 16, 25 to 26), the Arts and Culture Plaza will bring together a specialty market, street performers, and multiple performance groups starting at 4 p.m. each day. The lineup includes Funto Art, Taichung Sheng Wuzhou Puppet Troupe, Clap Studio, and street performers, presenting a diverse range of music, theater, puppetry, and other performances. Starting at 5 p.m. each day, visitors who check in at the venue can receive a NT$50 market voucher while supplies last. Those who complete a questionnaire can also receive a limited-edition gift, allowing visitors to enjoy performances, browse the market, and spend a summer evening filled with arts and culture.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau further explained that this year’s event will feature a special two-piano experience. The world-renowned piano brand Steinway & Sons will be available for public experience for the first time in the lobby of Chung Shan Hall from July 12 to 16, and from July 22 to 24. Meanwhile, Italian luxury piano brand FAZIOLI will make its debut at Taichung MRT, with the public invited to experience the piano at Taichung City Hall Station from July 10 to August 9. Residents are invited to become urban pianists and experience the beauty of music becoming part of everyday life. In the event of a typhoon and an official suspension of work and classes announced by the Taichung City Government, any event cancellations or changes will be announced on the Chung Shan Hall website (https://hall.culture.taichung.gov.tw/) and the Taichung City Dadun Cultural Center Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/dadunculture/).
