The “2026 Taichung Senior Citizen Art Exhibition” runs from October 17 to November 15 at the Central Corridor, Juyue Hall, Qingshui Hall, and second-floor Exhibition Rooms D and E of Taichung City Seaport Art Center. The exhibition brings together Taichung residents aged 60 and above to share their artistic creations. It gives older adults a chance to turn their observations, memories, and feelings into art, connect with others through their work, and discover new creative possibilities at different stages of life.

Deputy Director-General Ying-Chun Yu of the Cultural Affairs Bureau said in his remarks that the oldest participant this year is 100-year-old Chan-Ao Chen from Qingshui District. Chen began learning oil painting at the age of 90 and has remained an active artist ever since, taking part in the Senior Citizen Art Exhibition and several joint exhibitions with teachers and students. Now celebrating his 100th birthday, Chen continues to paint. His oil painting “Potala Palace” captures the palace's beautiful autumn scenery and reflects his enduring passion for art.

This year's exhibition has received enthusiastic participation from all 29 administrative districts of Taichung, bringing together 264 senior artists aged 60 to 100. Among them, 29 are between 80 and 90 years old, and six are over 90. The exhibition features a wide range of works, including ink painting, calligraphy, oil painting, rush weaving, and various traditional crafts. From expressive brushwork and vibrant colors to finely crafted handmade pieces, the artworks reflect the artists' different backgrounds and life experiences. Each has a distinctive artistic voice, revealing the creativity and enthusiasm with which these older artists continue to explore life through art.

Another participant, 85-year-old Yu-Hui Chen from Fengyuan District, continues to venture outdoors after retirement, using photography to capture natural scenery and everyday moments. Her photograph “Hot Air Balloon Carnival” captures the lively atmosphere of the Shigang Hot Air Balloon Carnival. Blue-and-red hot air balloons and specially shaped balloons float in the sky against distant mountains and white clouds, creating a festive scene filled with warmth and excitement. Through her camera, Chen continues to explore the world around her and seek out moments worth preserving, turning everyday scenes into photographs full of emotion and life.

Over the years, each artist has developed a unique perspective on the world. The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government said the Senior Citizen Art Exhibition celebrates the unique life experiences of every participant. Whether they are new to art or have been creating for years, all are welcome to express themselves and share their work in their own way. When life experience meets art, every brushstroke, camera shutter click, and handmade creation can become a way to capture memories and share emotions. Art also continues to bring fresh discoveries and enjoyment at every stage of life.

The “2026 Taichung Senior Citizen Art Exhibition” brings together 264 senior artists from all 29 districts of Taichung. Some paint the landscapes of their imagination, others capture moments through photography, while still others keep traditional crafts alive with their hands. Together, they create a vibrant picture of artistic expression spanning ages 60 to 100. The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government warmly invites residents to visit Taichung City Seaport Art Center from October 17 to November 15 to explore the stories behind the artworks and discover the creativity and beauty of everyday life shaped by years of experience.
